Q: Can you tell us a little about what you do and how you got started?

A: I work as a photographer, photographing families, babies, weddings, architecture, and corporate images. Being a Navy brat we traveled the world from the time I was two years old.  My dad took pictures everywhere we went because he knew those would be the only physical memories we would have. As soon as I was old enough to work a camera, my parents gifted me with one and I’ve been documenting life ever since.

Q:  What made you choose photography as a business?

A: Years upon years ago, I had a vision of capturing family as art! It started with my own children and quickly progressed into neighbors, then friends of neighbors. As I was so passionate about this craft, I needed to buy more gear for my camera and my darkroom so I started charging for my work. I was in nursing school at the time I started, so life was very busy! It was only natural that in the end, I would choose photography as it has been a large part of my life as long as I can remember.

Q: What lessons have you learned along the way?

A: When I first started my business the most exciting thing for me wasn’t clicking my shutter, it was the reward of watching my studio family grow and grow. The growth allowed me to expand and create jobs. Managing my studio team is where I learned my most valuable lessons. I learned that lifting others up and giving employees work in areas that they LOVE is where you get the best results as a business owner. I learned that not doing everything myself is healthier for my business. The most valuable lesson of all, for anyone in any job, is that having JOY at work is key to being fulfilled.

I’m very fortunate that my everyday interactions with my clients are meaningful and I can ALWAYS find joy in the work I do and the connections I make. Hopefully, my clients always leave the studio with a little more joy in their hearts than when they entered because that is always my goal!

Q: Why did you choose your location?

A: Fishers is unique and I’ve enjoyed being a part of the growth. I served on the architectural committee for several years and had the honor of helping shape the look of the Nickel Plate District. It’s wonderful to see such artistic touches being added to our buildings and social niches. We have many families in our city mixed with a strong young professional presence, which makes attending events very fun. Even growing from a town to a city, I find I can’t walk two blocks from my studio without running into someone I know. We are balancing a small town community with the conveniences of a city. The vibe downtown is one of excitement and opportunity. I’m grateful to be in such a vibrant community. There is a reason Fishers is one of the #1 places to live in the U.S.!
